Event organisers have confirmed the Western University Games will be held in Bunbury in 2017.
The largest university sporting event to be held in WA this year, returns to the South West for a second consecutive year with more than 1,200 athletes expected to take part between July 2 and 5.
Australian University Sport chief executive officer Don Knapp said athlete will compete across 18 different sports.
“Regional university sporting events provide student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue a dual education and sport pathway, which results in both tertiary qualifications and sport participation at all levels of sport across Australia,” Mr Knapp said.
“Sport programs on campus are proven to contribute toward higher levels of student recruitment, retention, completion of study and employability.”
The 2017 Western University Games is one of four regional games held simultaneously across Australia with a range of sports serving as the qualifying competition for the 2017 Australian University Games on the Gold Coast in September.
Sponsored by ‘Alcohol. Think Again’, the games are an ideal opportunity for Healthway to promote a safe drinking message to university student-athletes enrolled in tertiary education.
