Bunbury couple Karlene and Bob Mossman describe their life together as a typical love story.
The devoted couple were married 57 years ago after they crossed paths while both serving in the defence forces.
“Ours is a typical love story,” Mr Mossman said, “Lonely solider meets army nurse and falls in love.”
Mrs Mossman enlisted to the army in March 1959 and worked as a nurse while Mr Mossman was posted to the second battalion, Royal Australian regiment as a rifleman.
They married in 1960 in Liverpool, NSW at which point Mrs Mossman was discharged from service.
Army rules meant females had to be discharged when they got married. Their beautiful love story has endured ever since.
As they age, Mrs Mossman has been able to remain in her Pelican Point home with her husband thanks to the help of St Ives Home Care.
Mr Mossman, like many other veterans, receives in home care through the Department of Veteran Affairs’ community nursing program while Mrs Mossman receives care through a level four home care package.
The program provides specialist in home clinical nursing and personal care to ex-service Australians as well as war widows and widowers.
The army veterans will spend this Anzac Day watching the memorial service on television as they have done for the past few years.
Until recently the pair have attended services in person with Mrs Mossman having served as president of the ladies auxiliary while Mr Mossman was a formed RSL secretary.
