The South West Women’s Health and Information Centre are still calling for more wool to donate to their knitting group Connect for a Cause.
Connect for a Cause are a group of women that meet once a fortnight to knit slippers and rugs for Bunbury’s less fortunate.
The ladies are in need of wool, preferably 8 ply, to continue making warm clothes as Winter approaches.
South West Women’s Health and Information Centre finance officer Pat Baer said the women meet to knit and chat and to give back to the community.
“Originally it wasn’t necessarily knitting, but it has become knitting because that’s what they want to do and they just get together and do it all themselves.
“They started making blankets and then it became beanies and scarves and socks for the homeless for Winter.
“And then the pieces normally go to the Intown Lunch Centre.”
Mrs Baer said the group are trying to promote the Act Belong Commit message.
“The idea is to get women together to do something together that they could then give back to the community,” she said.
“The laughter that flows out of this room is just amazing.”
The centre previously put the need for wool on their Facebook page and were very happy with the donations they received.
“It was very well responded to by the community,” Ms Baer said.
“We got heaps of wool but we could always use more.”
The South West Women’s Health and Information Centre also offer a range of programs to women in the Bunbury region.
“We have a pap smear clinic, counselling, we have a nurse here where women can come and ask any questions they have free of charge, and an unplanned pregnancy program,” Ms Baer said.
“We have a program to help women learn how to nurture themselves – reflexology, yoga and tai chi.
“Just lots of different ways of getting women involved, and giving them exercise options.”
In addition, they also host yoga classes, walking groups, hiking groups, art workshops and exercise circuit classes.
Donations can be dropped off to 19 Fielder Street, Bunbury or for more information, contact the South West Women’s Health and Information Centre on 9791 3350.
