The City of Bunbury is inviting the community to help shape the future of the racecourse precinct in Carey Park by taking part in workshops that will help guide development and investment decisions in the area.
In partnership with LandCorp and the South West Development Commission, the City will establish a vision and desired future development for the area – which encompasses the Stables Precinct along with the Bunbury Trotting Club and Bunbury Turf Club locations - through the development of a Local Area Plan.
The Plan will identify issues affecting the area and take into account the physical environment and the socio-economic impacts to provide guidance of future development and investment decisions.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said creating a future plan for the Racecourses Precinct has been acknowledged as a high priority project for the City and its project partners.
“This plan needs to be completed to guide future development and it is important that the community has a say in the direction this precinct takes,” Mr Brennan said.
“The City of Bunbury encourages the community to come along to the workshops to identify values, explore ideas and provide feedback to the project team.”
Key stakeholders will be represented via a Project Reference Group, whose purpose is to provide input into the formulation of the Racecourses LAP and recommended actions in relation to the implementation of the project.
There will also be a number of opportunities for the community and other stakeholders to have their say throughout the LAP process.
Early engagement with a number of key stakeholders was undertaken in May with the wider community being invited to have their say as part of two rounds of workshops.
A Visioning Workshop will be held on Thursday, 29 June from 6pm to 9pm at Bunbury Turf Club with a Scenarios Workshop scheduled for Thursday, 20 July from 6pm to 9pm at Bunbury Trotting Club. Both will include a light supper.
Attendees can book a place at the workshops by emailing records@bunbury.wa.gov.au or by calling Project Manager Ben Deeley on 9792 7081.
