The storm that is San Cisco is preparing to hit Bunbury on Thursday, June 29 as part of their national tour for their latest album, The Water.
The Fremantle four-piece hit the road in May with their new music, with more than 20 dates around the country, following their performance at triple j’s 2017 One Night Stand concert in April.
Lead vocalist Jordi Davieson said the new album, which takes on a more collaborative songwriting approach, is “a good snapshot of my life and headspace earlier this year”.
The band took time after extensive touring in 2015 and early 2016 to pull together new song ideas and catchy choruses to create The Water, which is as diverse in sound as it is in subject matters and took a new direction production wise, from previous releases.
In his chat with The Mail, guitarist Josh Biondillo said fans can expect a little bit of everything from the band at their upcoming Prince show.
“Obviously there’ll be new songs from the record. We’ve got a few new lighting situations and backdrops,” he said.
“It’s going to sound a lot more punchy this time, we’ve put a lot of work into the show this time around as you would expect – we’ve levelled up a little bit.
“We do play a few of the older ones, the classics. We definitely wouldn’t not play those.”

Supporting the tour will be singer/songwriter Thelma Plum who’s been showing off some of her new material from her forthcoming debut album, as well as indie punk rockers Boat Show.
Biondillo said Plum was the perfect main support act for their tour.
“It’s good to have some chicks on tour, gives Scarlett a bit of time away from the bros,” he laughed.
“It’s been great though, she has fit in real nice. We get along really well, we love doing the same stuff on the road like going to the pub every now and then.
“Our sounds kind of complement each other quite nicely in a live situation.”
The friends became San Cisco in the wake of their high school graduation and soon Davieson and Biondillo along with bandmates, Scarlett Stevens and Nick Gardner, found themselves contributing to a new definition of hipster culture with the video for their first, breakout hit Awkward.
Fast forward a few years and the band enlisted the help of producer Steven Schram to deliver their sophomore album Gracetown, debuting at number two on the ARIA charts.
And the band show no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
“At the moment, right now, we’ve been working on some more music,” Biondillo said.
“Me and Jordi have got a little kind of studio so we’ve been trying to work on recording some more new music which is exciting.
“We’ve kind of had a bunch of songs we’ve been wanting to put onto a certain album – a bit more of an acoustic, slower, less turbo pop album so it’s looking like we might be putting something like that out kind of soon.”
Songs from the new album, including SloMo and the recently released Hey, Did I Do You Wrong? will join a hit list of classics like Fred Astaire and Awkward at the show next week.
The indie pop quartet said they’ve noticed a transition of their sound as they record and tour each new album.
“With every effort we get a lot more of an idea of what we want the band, what we want San Cisco to sound like,” Biondillo said.
“It changes with what we listen to and what we get into and I’m excited to see how the next (acoustic) one pans out.”
But as for the show, Biondillo said fans can get ready for an epic night of pop, rock and singalongs.
“We love to play any song that the crowd gets into. Hey, Did I Do You Wrong? the first single off the record, people really dig that,” he said.
“The first song always goes off too, we open with Did You Get What You Came For? and people always love that.
“We’re also looking forward to seeing the new revamp of Prince of Wales. We’ve played there many times, it’s a bit of an institution.”
San Cisco will play at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Bunbury on Thursday, June 29. Tickets are available online at oztix.com.au.
