Bunbury support group Doors Wide Open now have a premises to call their own after help from the community and the government.
The idea behind Doors Wide Open began last year when Lina Pugh held a community meeting to talk about the impact of meth on the community.
It was there she saw a real need for something more than what was being provided and she wasn’t the only one.
Fellow parent Julie Kent went to the meeting and knew she had to work with Ms Pugh on improving the situation.
From there, Ms Kent and Ms Pugh along with her daughter Courtney were able to set up a crisis centre where parents or addicts were able to call for support.
“We see addicts when they are at their lowest point and not active in their addiction,” Ms Pugh said.
Before Doors Wide Open had a premises people were able to call to vent or get advise on what to do next.
The building will be able to offer a place for children to play while mums or grandparents talk, an art room, kitchen, recreation room, resources room, garden and healing room.
During the state election the Labor Party committed $100,000 to help get Doors Wide Open up and running.
Ms Pugh said the support from South West MLC Adele Farina and Bunbury MLA Don Punch was amazing.
Ms Farina said the determination of the pair was outstanding, particularly when they were mothers of addicts themselves.
“The support from the community has been mind-blowing, it is a centre that the community built,” Ms Kent said.
As a result of this, Doors Wide Open are holding an open day to say thank you to everyone who helped with getting them up and running.
The open day will be on Saturday June 24 from 12pm.
