Bunbury Bakers Delight stores have helped to contribute to the biggest Pink Bun campaign to date, raising more than $1.84 million to support Australians affected by breast cancer.
The campaign saw all Bakers Delight bakeries around the country ‘pink up’ from May 11 to 31 and bake thousands of Pink Buns for a good cause.
One hundred per cent of the sale of Pink Buns went directly to Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), with the cost of the ingredients and staffing all being covered by the bakeries.
For the first time this year Bakers Delight bakeries also sold more than 67,000 pink tote bags that contributed to the exceptional result.
Money raised by the Pink Bun campaign supports essential BCNA services, including the My Journey Kit, an information pack provided to people newly diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 12,000 My Journey Kits are distributed free of charge annually.
BCNA chief executive officer Christine Nolan said her organisation was very thankful for the support of Bakers Delight, their franchisees and staff, and the whole community who really got behind the campaign this year.
“This year alone more than 17,000 Australian women and 144 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer, making the need for support and credible, evidence-based information more important than ever,” she said.
“We know that breast cancer doesn’t just affect the individual – it has a ripple effect on families, friends and colleagues. It’s fantastic to see communities across Australia show their support for everyone affected by this disease.
“Most people know someone who has been affected by breast cancer so this campaign holds a special place in the heart of the community. On behalf of our members and all Australians affected by breast cancer, thank you to everyone who visited their local Bakers Delight and supported the Pink Bun campaign.”
