South Bunbury Rotary Club celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday night with a dinner at the Quality Lighthouse Hotel Bunbury.
Honorary member and City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan joined more than 80 guests at the event.
The Club’s youngest ever President Ben Andrew, 31, handed over to incoming president Dawn Naylor whose goals include close cooperation with surrounding Rotary clubs.
Mrs Naylor also hopes to actively engage members in community projects they are passionate about and attracting additional members, especially young female professionals.
Mr Andrew took the opportunity to summarise the highlights of his two years as club president as catering at the Leschenault evacuation centre during the Yarloop bushfires, traffic control at the Duyfkin replica sailing ship and working with the Dunstan Street Christmas Lights.
He also expressed his pride at being involved in the donation of a paddle board and surf ski to the Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club and Rotary’s ongoing support of the less fortunate through the Give A Damn, Give A Can campaign.
Mr Andrew will now take on the role as assistant district governor of Rotary District 9465 under the new District Governor Bruce Lynch, who was previously vice president of the South Bunbury club.
