The Eaton Probus Club celebrated its 25th anniversary on Monday with a lunch at Alverstoke in Brunswick.
Sixty members and guests enjoyed the historic setting while having lunch in the barn.
The Rotary Club of South Bunbury sponsored a proposed Probus Club in Eaton with Rotarian Jack McCormick launching the group on February 17, 1992.
Bill Ivory was elected as foundation president with Peter Rowling elected secretary and Tug Wilson elected treasurer.
In January 1993, it was agreed that ladies would be able to join the club under the same rules as the men.
Current club President Dorothy Baile said the club has met every month since with the Eaton Senior Citizen’s Centre used as the club’s current headquarters.
”The 25 year celebration is an important milestone for the club and a chance to recognise those members who have been with us since that inaugural meeting,” she said.
The club invites active retirees to join in a program of friendship, fun and fellowship that caters to all with a varied program of events.
The club meets once a month to enjoy morning tea and to hear from a guest speaker.
The club also recently formed a garden group and visited interesting gardens to exchange tips and tricks, cuttings and seed collecting.
To find out more about the club, visit Eaton Senior Citizen’s Centre from 9.30am on the third Monday or each month.
