Classical music performers in Bunbury and Busselton will soon be treated to expert teaching from violin and viola player Professor Brian Finlayson.
Originally from Melbourne, Finlayson has been based in Europe for the last 25 years and currently works as the head of strings at the Corinthian Academy of Music in Klagenfurt, Austria.
He recently accepted an invitation from the WA branch of the Australian Strings Association to conduct a regional tour.
During his visit he will conduct workshops and masterclasses in the South West, offering constructive feedback to students.
On Thursday, August 24 he will hear from select string players in the region at a public event at Bunbury Catholic College from 7pm to 9pm.
On Friday, August 25, he will conduct a free open rehearsal with Philharmonic South West and string ensemble Busselton Baroque between 3.30pm and 6pm at Georgiana Molloy Anglican Community School.
He will then return to the school the next day to give a masterclass from 9.30am to 12.30am.
To round out his visit, Finlayson will conduct two further open rehearsals with the Philharmonic South West, at 2pm on Sunday, August 27 at St Mary’s Family Centre in Busselton and at 6.45pm on Monday, August 28 at Bunbury Catholic College.
For both open rehearsals, there will be a general admission charge of $5.
