With spring just around the corner snakes will soon be on the move.
Snakes are part of everyday life in Western Australia but there are many myths about these much-maligned native reptiles.
Knowledge is key and gone are the days of the good snake being a dead snake.
For those wanting to learn more about living safely alongside our fascinating native reptiles, and gaining practical skills and experience to catch and relocate those snakes which end up in places we’d rather they were not, training is available.
Animal Ark are coming to Bunbury and will be running their popular venomous snake handler training on Friday, September 22.
Endorsed and licensed by DBCA’s Parks and Wildlife Service, successful completion of the one day course enables handlers to apply for a Regulation 17 licence to catch and relocate snakes safely.
Animal Ark’s trainer David Manning is an experienced, well-respected herpetologist and author, effective with people of all ages and abilities. His courses are empowering, reassuring and teach hands on practical skills within a safe training environment.
Snakebites also kill thousands of dogs every year. But a little training goes a long way to keeping both pets and working dogs safe.
Mr Manning will also deliver snake avoidance training for dogs in Bunbury, Margaret River, Augusta and Nannup over a number of dates.
Curiosity can kill, but with a little help even the most curious dogs learn to leave snakes alone. The training sessions help owners too, not least to understand how their dog does or may react when coming across a snake.
The training will happen at Harradine Vets in Bunbury on September 23 and 24 and again on October 21 and 22. There will also be courses in Margaret River, Augusta and Nannup between October 23 and 28.
