More "hard hitting" campaigns about the consequences of driving at high speeds are required to help address WA's "deadly culture of speeding" over the limit.
That's the opinion of the RAC, who say new "alarming" research shows WA has become far too complacent about the consequences of speeding on our roads.
A new RAC survey has revealed 1 in 5 WA drivers don't believe other motorists properly understand the law around speeding.
The survey also found 1 in 3 people believe more awareness campaigns to better educate West Australian's on the dangers of speeding are needed.
The findings were based on two questions put to RAC members recently: 'What road rules do you think other drivers don't understand?'; and "what areas require further driver education?'
"It is sobering that drivers themselves are admitting we have a problem," RAC Corporate Affairs General Manager Will Golsby said.
"This deadly culture of speeding on our roads, we just don't seem to be able to slow down and it is killing people.
"It is deeply concerning that there seems to be this 'it will be OK approach' when driving a car. Tragically, it is not.
"People today are driving on the road, who seem to have no regard for the safety of the other people on the road.
"There is an opportunity here I think...to really start focussing on some hard hitting awareness and education.
"It needs to be really focussing in on what the impact of road trauma does."
Last year, 195 people were killed on WA roads. One-third of those fatalities were speed related.
Last Thursday's crash claimed the life of a young mother, her young son and an elderly man.
Despite this, a man was caught speeding on Monday along the road doing 154km/h.
He told police he was in a rush to get home to pack for a holiday.
Over the weekend police caught another man speeding at 147km/h with his two children in the car.
A third driver was clocked at 143km/h just one day after the fatal crash.
Five minutes later police stopped another driver for travelling at 137km/h.
"After the week we have had on this road, it is incredibly disappointing that people are still driving at these excessive and dangerous speeds," Ms Roberts said.
From September 6, WA's first point to point speed camera on Forrest Highway will start fining drivers who go over the limit.
The cameras were first switched on in October and an initial six month test revealed 1 in 3 drivers were speeding while travelling through the 26km stretch of road.
The trial found 90 per cent of those speeding were exceeding the limit by between one and nine kilometres, while around 10 per cent were exceeding 120km/h.
