Bunbury Cathedral Grammar Primary School students made a sunflower stem out of donations for the Leukaemia Foundation as part of Sunflower Day on Thursday, August 25.
Event organiser Danika Wellington said the event has taken many forms in a range of primary schools within the Bunbury area over the last four years, but this was the most successful yet after it raised $428 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I encourage the students to have their own take on Sunflower Day and do what they think would raise the most money – whether that be a dress-up in yellow day, sunflower money line, or whatever they come up with,” Miss Wellington said.
“The big bright sunflower, with a growing money stem was a wonderful way for the students to visually see their contribution.
“It was great that the students were so willing to be involved…the student leaders did such a fantastic job organising the event.”
“The event coincided with the school’s Read in Bed Day, so all the students got dressed up in their pyjamas.”
