Bunnings Warehouse has lent helping hands and green thumbs to grow Thommo’s Community Garden’s produce over Spring.
Bunnings Bunbury representatives planted seedlings alongside the garden’s coordinator on Wednesday, September 20.
The team developed a food bank, with all produce going back into the community.
Thommo’s Community Garden coordinator John Thomson said the Bunnings has helped to provide, plant and grow produce.
“It is about the third time now, it’s much appreciated because it goes to help a lot of people that are struggling,” he said.
“Bunnings do such a good job in helping the garden, and there’s other people as well.”
Mr Thomson solidified the purpose of the garden to people in the area.
“It teaches people how to grow, we are also working on helping on teaching them how to cook,” he said.
“A lot of the produce goes to the food bank, that probably two ute loads a week that go there.
“We also have a session where people that have proper gardens grow their own family plots, people with disabilities come here and work in the garden.
“People that have medical problems or health problems, they benefit from the garden because it is sort of a sanctuary.”
The garden’s coordinator has seen people of all ages come to learn how to garden.
The garden was set up by John’s brother Colin Thomson almost 10 years ago.
