With Christmas fast approaching, Bunbury MLA Don Punch has urged the community to support small local businesses.
Mr Punch said small and medium sized retailers need support from the public if Bunbury is to have a vibrant local economy.
“Local retailers and service providers are the backbone of our local economy which is why I am initiative the Proudly Bunbury Buy Local campaign,” he said.
“The state government recently passed the WA Jobs bill through the lower house which will support local manufacturers and providers to benefit from government contracts.
“While that’s fantastic, I want to make sure support is also provided to small retailers and service providers.”
Mr Punch said diversity is what really ensures economic growth and Bunbury’s small businesses are major contributors to that diversity.
“Proudly Bunbury Buy Local is about recognising that these smaller businesses employ local people, that money spent in these businesses is returned to our economy and makes a statement that by supporting these businesses, you are supporting Bunbury,” he said.
“In addition to promoting the campaign, I will be creating a local business working group to keep me informed of the issues impacting on local businesses and to help identify solutions.”
