Mandurah, you’re going to need a bigger boat, with Hollywood superstar Richard Dreyfuss set to hit town next year.

The Close Encounter With The Man From JAWS - An Evening with Richard Dreyfuss will take place at the Mandurah Convention Centre on June 29, 2018 and, according to organisers, tickets are already selling fast.

Event promoter Jon Ring can barely contain his excitement.

“This will be a truly spectacular event,” he said.

“There will be some nice surprises and prizes on the night.

“And a few celebrity guests.”

Dreyfuss, best known for his work on Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Mr Holland’s Opus, is understood to have accepted Mr Ring’s invitation to come to Mandurah over a random phone call.

Mr Ring said fellow promoter Kevin Hodge challenged him to get Dreyfuss on the phone and, while he won’t reveal how he managed it, succeeded in doing just that.

”It is virtually impossible to personally get hold of someone like Richard Dreyfuss, let alone to have them come to where you live,” he said.

“And that is exactly what happened.”

“We chatted for about 20 minutes and he then gave me his agent’s details and said both he would come.

“The rest is pure history”.

Hollywood producer Karen Cadle, who says she represents Dreyfuss for bookings such as the Mandurah show, said the star had agreed to appear at the Mandurah event.

“I do have to draw up some kind of a contract, or [Mr Ring] does, so that we’re confirmed,” she said.

“He will also appear in Sydney and in Perth at Supanova, just prior to his [Mandurah show].”

Mr Ring said the event will include full dinner service with wine, a music ensemble, and a video tribute to Dreyfuss.

He also said the star would be interviewed by Cadle, with an audience Q&A session following.

”This show will be televised as a public news event and streamed through social media outlets with a massive audience,” Mr Ring said.

A second event is expected to be held in Perth on June 30. Dreyfuss is also said to be making appearances at both the Sydney and Perth Supanova events.
