The Swimming WA Open Water Swimming Series will return to Busselton on Sunday, November 12.
This is the third time that the round within the nation’s largest open water swimming series has conducted an open water swim in Busselton since the series began 10 years ago.
This round has something for all ages and fitness levels, with a range of distances from 500 metres to five kilometres to meet the needs of novice and professional swimmers.
Thanks to the support of the City of Busselton, Choice Hotels and PrintSync, this OWS Series round aims to attract more than 300 swimmers.
On the starter gun will be City of Busselton deputy mayor John McCallum, beginning at 7:30am with the 500m event.
Celebrating 10 years, the SWA OWS Series starts at Cottesloe Beach on 4th November 2017 and runs throughout the summer until March 2018.
The Series attracts 6,000 competitive and novice swimmers competing in 11 rounds, plus the relay round at Scarborough Beach, the WA Open Water State Championships on November 25 and Champs of the Bay at Rottnest on February 25.
Swimming WA chief executive officer Darren Beazley said the Busselton round of the OWS Series was always popular with locals and people from the metro area.
“Half the field that competed last year were from Perth, but working with local community groups, we anticipate an increased local field, as our event is run parallel to the course of the popular Busselton Jetty swim,” he said.
“The OWS Series also serves as a great way for Swimming WA to involve our local swimming clubs – the Busselton Swimming Club and Georgiana Molloy Anglican School Swimming Club, together with the Busselton Surf Life Saving Club.
“The Series is all about community engagement and we are hoping that this year’s round is the largest that the South West has produced.”
