The deadline for homes and businesses in parts of Bunbury, South Bunbury and Dalyellup to switch their landline phone and internet services over to the National Broadband Network (NBN) is fast approaching, with the existing copper network in the area to be disconnected this month.
Residents and businesses in these areas need to order an NBN powered plan from a phone or internet provider if they wish to continue using their landline phone and internet services.
The rollout of the NBN network is an upgrade to Australia’s landline phone and broadband network.
Once the network goes live in a particular area, residents and businesses have an 18 month window to contact their preferred phone or internet provider and make the switch.
After this time, the NBN will replace most existing landline phone and internet services and the copper network will be decommissioned.
NBN has urged residents and businesses in parts of Bunbury, South Bunbury and Dalyellup who have not switched to an NBN powered plan to contact their preferred phone or internet provider as soon as possible.
WA head of NBN Rachael McIntyre said many residents and businesses in the area have been enjoying the benefits that come with accessing services over the NBN since it became available almost 18 months ago.
“While the majority of households have switched their broadband services over to the new network, there are those yet to do so and they risk being disconnected once the copper network is decommissioned this month,” she said.
“Making the switch to the NBN is not automatic which means people who want to maintain their landline phone and internet access must contact their preferred phone or internet provider to place an order for an NBN powered plan as soon as possible.
“We are particularly urging people with special equipment, including EFTPOS terminals and medical and security alarms, which operate using a landline phone connection, to check with their preferred service provider about their compatibility and assistance in moving these services across to the NBN network.”
The copper network will progressively be decommissioned in parts of Usher, Withers, Carey Park, College Grove, Dalyellup, Gelorup, South Bunbury, Bunbury, East Bunbury, Eaton, Pelican Point, Vittoria, Davenport, Glen Iris and Millbridge between December 2017 and May 2018.
