Wembley Primary School Harry Potter wizards break Guinness World Record

A Perth primary school has set a new Guinness World Record for the most people dressed as Harry Potter.

Wembley Primary School counted a whopping 827 would-be wizards dressed up as the popular fictional character, smashing the previous record of 676 set in the United Kingdom in June.

Wembley Primary School deputy principal Shane Stott said Charlotte Raston was the mastermind behind the idea.

"Charlotte did a Primary Extension and Academic Challenge (PEAC) course and they were set a challenge to see if they could drive a world record attempt," he said.

"She approached our admin to see if she could get the community on board to break the record.

"Charlotte and her family organised everything and we assisted with the logistics."

Mr Stott said the students were gathered on the oval for the official count.

"We had a five minute timer from beginning to end; to make sure everyone was in there dressed as Harry Potter and could be counted," he said.

"Charlotte ran a quiz and read some Harry Potter facts to keep the little ones entertained.

"There was a big cheer - it was quite the celebration."
