The white run for Western Rock Lobster is on and fishers up and down the Perth coast are pulling in big hauls in the lead up to Christmas.
To help with the hunt, WA's peak angling body Recfishwest has put together a weekly report on what's biting and where.
Boats
Crays look as if to have started their march towards the continental shelf and, as anticipated, this season appears to be rewarding for both the potters and divers.
The fish aggregating devices wide of Rottnest Island have striped and small southern bluefin tuna around them.
Closer to the 100m contour, The Barges off West End are holding samson fish and amberjack. Small yellowtail kingfish have been found close to West End and Stragglers.
It may pay to spend some time trolling, and while doing so keeping an eye on the sounder for schools of baitfish, near Parker Point, at Five Fathom Bank and along Three Mile Reef for spanish and shark mackerel following confirmed sightings by divers in the mentioned areas.
Shore-based
Tailor are still a little hit and miss along the coast with some early morning lure fishers picking up up to half a dozen 40cm to 60cm fish while others are not seeing a fish.
Things have been similar for the bait fishers in the evenings, however the odd mulloway has provided some entertainment between bites for the night owls.
Generally, the beaches north of Mindarie including Pipidinny, Yanchep Lagoon and Two Rocks have been producing the bigger numbers of tailor.
The northern and southern rock walls have herring and small skippy.
Squid can still be caught from the rock walls within Fremantle. Mulloway have occasionally been caught at Secret Harbour and Singleton.
The lower reaches of the Swan River would also be worth trying for mulloway.
Both of the metropolitan river systems are occupied with chopper tailor. Flathead should become more active along the sand flats following the warmer air temperatures.
