A woman has been rescued after spending two nights down a mine shaft in north-west NSW.
She told police she had gone for a late-night walk on Friday when she tripped and fell down the eight-metre shaft.
The 26-year-old was reported missing from her Lightning Ridge home on Friday night after she failed to return from the walk, a police spokeswoman said.
Her disappearance sparked a massive search effort, and police said they were concerned about her safety with temperatures reaching 40 degrees on Saturday.
On Sunday about 10.20am, she was spotted in the mine shaft by a police drone.
fficers from the Western Region Rescue Unit used a pulley and harness to bring her to the surface and they gave her water.
She was taken to Lightning Ridge hospital in a stable condition.
