The St Vincent de Paul Society has received a big boost from the State government just prior to Christmas with a $1.4 million Lotterywest grant.
Announced on Monday by Premier Mark McGowan and Lotterywest chief Susan Hunt, the grant will help the organisation help those in need.
Last financial year, the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) provided support to close to 40,000 West Australians through its emergency relief program.
This year Vinnies is set to deliver almost 1500 food hampers to people who would otherwise go without at Christmas.
Since 1989 the State government has, through Lotterywest, provided 78 grants to Vinnies worth more than $17.8 million.
As well as the latest grant the State government has donated $20,000 towards the 2017 Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
"The Vinnies Christmas Appeal is on now and I encourage the community to continue supporting Vinnies so they can continue providing much-needed assistance to people experiencing hardship," Mr McGowan said.
