Dramatic police pursuit through Perth suburbs ends with two men in custody

Police have taken two men into custody following a dramatic car chase through several Perth suburbs on Wednesday morning, with witnesses claiming spikes were deployed to stop the fleeing vehicle.

A police spokesman said the pursuit was sparked after officers responded to a report of a burglary in Forrestfield about 10am allegedly involving a red Holden Commodore.

"Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Clayton Street in Bellevue however the driver refused to stop," he said.

"The driver continued to evade police across several suburbs in Perth's east before the car was stopped near the intersection of Welshpool Road and McDowell Street in Welshpool."

Witnesses reported the vehicle's tyres were blown out.

Two males inside the vehicle were caught by police as they attempted to run from the car.

Police Air Wing tracked the vehicle as it drove through Bennett Springs, Beechboro, Bayswater before coming to a stop in Welshpool.

Police enquiries were ongoing on Wednesday afternoon and no charges had been laid.
