An opportunity to compete in a fresh and open water event is coming to the South West this weekend.
Round six of Swimming WA’s Open Water Swimming Series will be held at Harvey Dam this Saturday.
The event will kick off at 1.30pm for the 500m leg followed by the 1.25, 2.5 and 5km distances and is expected to attract more than 400 swimmers.
Swimming WA chief executive Darren Beazley said it was a unique fresh water event.
“We encourage everyone to get out of the pool and into the open water this summer,” he said.
“Harvey is only 90 minutes from Perth, and even closer to the regional centres of Bunbury and Busselton - who both have large swimming communities.
“Each round has exceeded our expectations in terms of participation numbers and we expect Harvey to not disappoint.”
Golden West Dolphins Swimming Club will be providing volunteers for the event to help Swimming WA.
There will be a Community BBQ after the event provided by Alcoa at the amphitheatre, and acoustic guitarist James Wilson will be playing from 4:30.
