Local cricketer Cole Sawyer was honoured to represent Bunbury Catholic College and take up the captain’s mantle last month.
The 16-year-old led the BCC side during the Marist Cricket Carnival, held at Lavalla Catholic College in Traraglon, Victoria.
Sawyer was named champion player of the tournament and was picked for the First 12 selection.
Among the highlights, Sawyer knocked 118 runs off 150 balls against Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart College - Sadadeen Campus in round four.
He also took 5/20 from eight overs in BBC’s round one clash against St. Francis Xaviers College.
The side came third overall in the competition.
Sawyer said the experience was one he would never forget.
“It was probably one of the best experiences of my life,” he said. “We were in a valley so we were surrounded by mountains and it was an awesome time.”
The cricketer enjoyed playing on Lavalla’s pitches and taking on other Marist schools from across Australia.
“It was a challenge and I feel like the more challenges there are the better,” he said. “You want to be better and these challenges made me a better person, I feel.
“I had to be captain so the challenge was that I had to perform for my team every day and by doing that it made me a better person and leader.”
Sawyer started his cricket career at Colts before joining Marist.
His commitment covers multiple sports, having recently trained with the Swans Districts Football Club’s Colts side.
