Harvey cricket fan Haydn Jones was recently acknowledged for his tireless efforts in promoting the sport.
Mr Jones was given the Western Australia’s Specsavers Community Cricket Champion award, receiving tickets to watch Australia take on England in the first One Day International at Optus Stadium.
Mr Jones thanked his friends, family and Harvey-Benger Cricket Club for their support.
Mr Jones was nominated for the award by fellow teammate and coach Scott Fowler.
Eaton Fair Specsavers co-owner and optometrist Mark Lloyd said he was proud of Mr Jones efforts in the community.
“He not only plays cricket but puts a lot of time into the juniors, he runs the Milo Junior Cricket program there, and we actually sponsor one of those programs in the local area,” he said.
“To see someone win it who does that sort of stuff is great news.”
A lover of the sport, Mr Jones has played the sport for the past 23 years and been in an administrative role for the past eight – he is currently president of Harvey-Benger Cricket Club and is also heavily involved in Cricket South West and Wellington Cricket Committee.
