Aqwest recently welcomed the appointment of a new Chair and two new directors to its board. Bunbury businessman Stan Liaros has been appointed Chair for a term expiring in May 2020.
Mr Liaros said he was really pleased with the appointment and was looking forward to it.
“I was involved with Aqwest for nine years and the last three years of that tenure as chair from 2003 to 2012,” he said.
“I see Aqwest as a water corporation, an organisation at a local level, a community service, all of those sorts of things to me are exciting.
“The Glen Iris expansion will source far better quality water and our capabilities will increase, so its about improving and expanding our boundaries to provide a really good water service to the community in the South West.”
Mr Liaros said he believed new new directors Wendy Giles and Patricia Scaffidi would bring a wealth of experience in their respected fields and balance to the board.
“I think we need to have a gender balance, not just for the sake of making up numbers but to have all parts of the community represented,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to it because it’s a well balanced board, with people with different skills, who will have significant contributions.
“I will be involved as the chair in setting direction and trying to provide a service at the best possible price to our consumers.”
Mr Liaros is the Apprentice and Traineeship Company chief executive and former chair of South West Development Commission and South West Academy of Sport.
Dr Giles has been appointed for a two year term, she is the former Edith Cowan University dean in Bunbury and former City of Bunbury Councillor.
Ms Scaffidi will serve for a three year term and is a retired accountant and GP Down South’s secretary.
Aqwest Chief Executive Officer Brad Bevis congratulated the new Chair and Directors.
“The Aqwest Chair and Directors have a diverse range of skills and extensive business experience which ensures that Aqwest can assess and evaluate opportunities in the water services industry as and when they arise,” he said.
