Bunbury fire crews battled a bush fire close to the South West Sports Centre and Bussell Highway on Sunday night.
DFES received the call at 7.23pm on January 21, with reports of a fire near the intersection of Bussell Hwy and Washington Avenue.
Twenty fire trucks attended the scene as the fire’s location proved difficult for crews to access.
A Smoke Hazard warning was also issued late last night for people in Withers and surrounding areas.
Members of the public entered Hay Park to witness the blaze, with crews forced to warn spectators to keep a safe distance.
The blaze was contained around 2.30am and brought under control at 4am.
Teams from Bunbury City Bush Fire Brigade, Bunbury Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Waterloo Bush Fire Brigade, and Dardanup Central Bush Fire Brigade worked together throughout the night.
Crews will be on the scene today to inspect and clean up the fireground.
South West Sports Centre released a statement on Facebook warning people with respiratory issues to avoid the area due to lingering smoke.
The centre confirmed no damage was caused other than smoke entering the building.
The total damage and cause of the blaze are still unknown.
