The City of Bunbury together with the APEX Club of Bunbury pulled out all the stops this morning to kick-start the celebrations for Australia Day 2018.
Hundreds enjoyed a delicious BBQ Breakfast whilst the Bunbury City Band and Men of Song performed to the crowds.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan welcomed the community and described Bunbury as a paradise within Australia.
The Citizen of the Year award went to Helen Robinson for her work with the region’s LGBTQI community in the past year.
Community group of the Year went to Morrissey Homestead Incorporated whilst Samantha Russell was named Young Citizen of the Year.
The Willcox Brown Perpetual Trophy went to the APEX Club of Bunbury who organised the annual Australia Day BBQ for the first time this year.
Following the awards the Mayor welcomed 38 new citizens from 13 countries including Ireland, India and Germany.
Meanwhile, former Member for Bunbury John Castrilli received the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division for services to the community and Parliament of Western Australia.
