One South West basketballer made a name for himself while playing for the Western Australia Under 20s’ Men’s basketball side earlier this month.
Brody England was the only player from the region to represent the state in the Under 20s’ National Championships in Terrigal, New South Wales.
The side went on to defeat Queensland in the bronze medal game.
The 18-year-old took part in state team tryouts late last year and focused on offensive sets and scrimmages.
Participants also faced off against the Perry Lakes Hawks and Perth Wildcats’ development squad during the selection process.
England happily accepted the opportunity to represent WA.
“It’s a great honour to represent WA and be one of 10 athletes to represent your state in basketball,” he said.
Two years ago, a broken arm prevented him from representing the WA U16s’ state side on the national stage.
The basketballer’s love of the game is a force in itself.
“I like the skills aspect, there’s a lot of footwork involved and you have to be very switched on,” he said.
“I like the athleticism behind it, it’s fun and a very fast-paced game.”
England started out in Eaton’s Under 10s’ side before representing the South West Slammers.
Last year, he was picked for the State Basketball League’s Men’s Slammers team and the School Sports’ WA All-star squad.
England currently plays for Aces White in the Bunbury Basketball Association Men’s competition.
