People across Bunbury lined the streets, whooped and cheered in celebration of the Queen’s Baton Relay.
Former Olympian Pam Glossop left from Bunbury Primary School to kick off the Bunbury leg of the relay on Friday, February 23.
Students, staff, parents and community members celebrated the Baton’s arrival in Bunbury.
The relay then travelled down Spencer Street, headed through the Bunbury CBD and along the coast before finishing at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell.
A selection of community members including John Castrilli and Joyce McGinn took part in the baton’s journey through Bunbury.
The Baton Relay will travel over 40,000 kilometres, across every state and territory in Australia, ahead of the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Approximately 38,000 participants will carry the baton across the country, with 310 from Western Australia.
The relay kicked off on Commonwealth day – March 13 – before reaching the Caribbean, Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
The games kick off on April 4 and will continue until the 15th.
Prince Charles will open the baton and read the Queen’s message during the opening ceremony.
