Two South West hockey players have scored a unique opportunity to play on the national stage.
Bronte Price (Eaton) was one of five female athletes from Western Australia chosen to represent the Northern Territory in this month’s Under 18s National Championships.
Meanwhile, six male players from WA, including Dalyellup’s Marcus Apanah, were picked for the NT men’s side.
The tournament kicks off from March 13 to 21 in Launceston, Tasmania.
After narrowly missing out on a place in WA’s women’s team, Price was offered the chance to play for the NT side.
Set to face off against some of the country’s best hockey players, Price was delighted to receive the opportunity.
“It’s pretty cool and I am very excited,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity and a real privilege to play for another state.
“The level of competition really steps up in U18s so it will be really intense but also a great opportunity.”
The 16-year-old will be keeping up her fitness and ball skills while counting down to the tournament.
Price first got involved in the sport at seven, inspired by friends and family members to give it a go.
The defender has played for Bunbury’s Associates Hockey Club ever since, and has gone on to represent the South West Strikers and South West Academy of Sport.
“I like the enjoyment of it, the pace of the games...the style is what attracted me to it the most,” Price said.
“It is a part of my life now, it’s really good and I have always enjoyed playing it.”
Price said those interested in hockey should strive to reach their goals and never give up.
“It’s a great sport, there are heaps of clubs around,” she said.
“If you get involved, keep at it because there are a lot of pathways through hockey.”
Hockey WA announced it was proud to continue its partnership with Hockey NT.
The organisation said the partnership allowed for more playing and development opportunities for athletes in both states.
