Donnybrook’s second grade side concluded its Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association 2017/18 campaign with six wins and eight losses.
The Dons headed to Eaton Sports Centre to take on the Beavers in round 15. The away side needed to win to remain in finals contention.
After Eaton won the toss and hit the crease, Donnybrook's bowling line-up – spearheaded by Phillip Walsh (clinching a whopping 5/23 off 8.3 overs) and Christopher Morgan (4/20 from nine) – tore through the home side.
Five batsmen were dismissed were ducks.
Stuart Clark (13 runs off 44 balls) and Bradley Devlin (17 off 38) were the only two Beavers to reach double figures.
Eaton failed to impress in front of its home crowd and was dismissed for 69 with 21.3 overs remaining.
Opening batsmen Mark Manea clinched a half century off 25 balls not out. His time at the crease included six fours and three sixes.
While Manea made light work of Eaton’s bowlers, fellow opener Stephen Wright (17 off 22) helped Donnybrook to reach the Beavers’ total in just 7.5 overs.
The Dons collected six points; receiving two bonus points for winning away from home.
A week later, Donnybrook hosted Dalyellup Beach in the final round of the regular season.
The visitors took control after winning the toss.
Opening batsman Murray Tennent-Brown delivered 45 off 59, frustrating Donnybrook’s bowling line-up.
Max Sinclair (17) added to the run count, before the Dons breezed through the middle and lower orders.
Four batsmen made single figures, while another three were dismissed for ducks. Joel Parker starred for the home side with 4/19 off nine overs.
Chasing Dalyellup Beach’s 130-run total, Manea’s 25 off 18 – including three fours – gave the home side a boost.
Despite impressive efforts from Ben Alsop (36no off 110) and captain James Harcourt (15 off 40), Donnybrook’s middle and lower orders also caved under pressure.
A late charge from Richard Licciardello failed to prevent Dalyellup Beach from dismissing Donnybrook for 120 with three overs left.
