A 56-year-old man from Dunsborough has been granted bail after facing court over charges dating back to the 1990s.
The former school teacher has been charged with three counts of sexual penetration of a child over 13 years and under 16 years, four counts of indecent dealing of a child over 13 years and under 16 years and one count of attempted sexual penetration of a child over 13 years and under 16 years.
The incidents allegedly occurred in the south metropolitan area between July 1997 and September 1998.
It was alleged the teenage boy attended the accused’s home where certain acts occurred, with parts of the story confirmed by family members of the victim.
The teacher would have been around 36-years-old at the time of the alleged offences.
The accused appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court via video link on Friday March 9, 2018.
His lawyer submitted an application for bail, which was granted by the Magistrate until his next court appearance on April 26.
As part of his bail, the accused had to pay $20,000 in surety, provide a fixed address and must follow a number of protective conditions.
He must not contact the complainant, he must not approach the complainant and he must not go within 100 metres of where the complainant lives or works.
Following the prosecutors concern of the accused being in contact with children between court dates, the Magistrate also added one additional condition that he must not be in the presence of a child 16 years or under, unless in the presence of someone who is 18 years or older in any place where the public does not have access.
He first appeared in court on February 27, 2018.
