South West MLC Steve Thomas has called on the WA government to abandon a new land tax for Bunbury.
The state are considering expanding the Metropolitan Region Improvement Tax to Bunbury which would result in certain investment properties being hit with another tax.
Dr Thomas said the Liberal Party rejected the measure while in government and this showed Labor was going against their mantra of no new or increased taxes.
“Blaming the previous government for this proposed new Labor land tax is a cop-out,” he said.
Treasurer Ben Wyatt said the government was still assessing whether to implement or withdraw the revenue.
“Steve Thomas should be honest with the people of Bunbury and explain why the former government left the revenue in the budget if they rejected it as he claims. His excuses so far simply don’t pass the pub test,” he said.
