Moorabinda Croquet Club was the venue for the State Open Golf Croquet Handicap Championships at the weekend.
Twenty eight players from around the state converged on Bunbury to contest the event.
All the players in the State squad and the development squad were involved and included entrants from as far afield as Geraldton, York and Busselton and clubs from Perth.
Six players represented Bunbury, none of whom are state players.
The final was fought out between two rising stars from the Moorabinda Club.
Local businessman Les Holmes was beaten by the smallest possible margin by school teacher Gary Phipps.
Both local players are relatively new to the sport and are close friends both on and off the field.
They have both won Club competitions and now Phipps is a State Champion. Another success for Bunbury sport.
