Bunbury snowboarder Sean Pollard has made a name for himself in this year’s Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang.
Pollard finished 12th out of 22 athletes in his first run in the SB-UL snowboard cross event, held on the 925-metre Jeongseon Alpine Centre slope last week.
He was more than two seconds faster in his second run, moving up to seventh and joining the final 16 athletes in the third elimination round.
Pollard then went up against event favourite Jacopo Luchini (Italy) for a spot in the quarter finals. Luchini edged out Pollard by 0.13, before Pollard placed ninth overall.
Later in the week, the 26-year-old went on to place fifth overall in the banked slalom event.
On Facebook, Pollard wrote: “Massive thank you to my family and friends that came over. And thank you to everyone that has supported me on this incredible adventure over the last year and a half. Also, a big shout out to all the Aussie supporters that made the trip out. It was amazing to hear the roar every time we crossed the finish line.”
Pollard was attacked by two Great White Sharks off the Esperance Coast in October 2014, losing his left arm and right hand.
He took up snowboarding in 2015, before joining a camp for para-snowboarders with upper-limb impairments.
He completed his journey from victim to paralympic athlete by qualifying for the banked slalom and snowboard cross events last month.
