One Ferguson Valley hockey star has scored the green and golden opportunity to represent his country next month.
Jake Harvie was recently picked for the Kookaburras’ Commonwealth Games squad.
The men’s side sits in Pool A alongside New Zealand, South Africa, Scotland and Canada.
“It is unbelievable – it’s really a dream come true for me and I am just very fortunate and lucky to be given the opportunity,” Harvie said.
“I am really looking forward to the experience and I cannot wait to enjoy it.”
Harvie told the Mail he will be working on “game knowledge and awareness” leading up to the Games.
He said the side stood a strong chance of taking out gold.
“For us, it’s about playing our best at the back end of the tournament,” he said.
“We’ve put a lot of work into it over the past twelve months and made a lot of progress with the newer group this year.
“We’ve got a few things we’re working on but we’re in for a good chance.”
Harvie helped the Kookaburras take out the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia earlier this month.
The 19-year-old made his Kookaburras debut in the International Festival of Hockey last November and represented Australia in December’s World League Finals.
He also took part in a four-game series against the Netherlands earlier this year.
The Games, held on the Gold Coast, kicks off on April 4 and will continue through to the 15th.
The team will launch its campaign against South Africa on April 7.
