Challis Builders have been paving the way for custom-built homes for more than 70 years.
The owner, Jamie Challis, is proud of the business which was started by his grandfather in 1945 and then continued by his father and then himself.
Originally based in Augusta, Jamie moved the business to Bunbury in 2006 and continued to specialise in custom builds, renovations and light commercial work.
“We are really proud of the amount of time we can spend with our clients compared to other builders,” Jamie said, “That’s why we do a limited amount of customised work.”
When asked about how they approach a custom build Jamie said the team works closely with each client and listens carefully to their ideas to ensure they become a reality.
“People might come to us with a magazine clipping from Home Beautiful and we’ll match the product to the vision of what they want.”
Challis Builders was recently selected by Home Beautiful to feature two of their custom homes.
“As far as I know there hasn’t been a Bunbury home in Home Beautiful before,” Jamie said, “We thought we might not be selected because it’s a national publication and it’s hard to make the grade.”

As well as recognition in print, the business has received several awards.
Last year Challis Builders won the best customer service category at the Master Builders Bankwest Housing Excellence Awards.
“Our customers are spoilt because we limit the number of new projects we take on,” Jamie said, “That’s the level of service we provide.”
Jamie said the success of the business comes from the people who work there.
The knowledgeable team includes Karen who has 22 years experience in the building industry, Rachael who has 20 years experience as a draftsperson and interior designer, Charlie who has been a construction manager and site supervisor for 15 years and Jan who is an experienced accountant.
