Singer-songwriter Damien Leith has been on a long, winding path from life in Ireland to today.
The musician hit the big time in 2006, playing to TV viewers across Australia while on Australian Idol.
Since winning the series 12 years ago, Leith has travelled around the country with his soothing tones and friendly attitude in tow.
Leith is now heading to Bunbury to perform his slew of hits at John Boyle O’Reilly’s 150th Celebrations on Saturday, March 24 at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.
“I love the town, it’s fantastic. Last time I was there, I was preparing for a half marathon so I jogged all around town and it was beautiful,” he said.
“With every single event I go to, I meet a different audience who reacts in a different way. I think that’s what makes the shows exciting.
“When you get out on stage, you don’t really know who you are playing to or what to expect. That’s a lot of fun.”
He said his fans across the country have helped him get through many ups and downs.
“It’s been 12 years since Australian Idol, and there’s no way I would still be doing it if it wasn’t for that fanbase,” he admitted.
“I am always grateful for the fanbase, the fans are amazing.”
The musician, producer, TV personality, playwright and author has made eight studio albums including his latest, Songs from Ireland.
The album was inspired by Leith’s one-man show The Parting Glass, telling a tale about an Irish father and his directionless son.
The musician said Irish culture was important to Australia’s way of life.
“The events have a great significance to a lot of people,” Leith said.
“With any sort of major event, it’s really important what you play and how you interact with the audience.”
