CRICKET: Colts Cricket Club bagged a stylish win last Saturday over Marist at the Recreation Ground.
Marist batted first and posted a respectable score of 7/209 but it wasn’t enough to hold off Colts who batted superbly to finish on 5/211.
Marist had solid contributions from all batsmen but the most outstanding was 15-year-old Manuel Hunwick scoring 57 runs to boost his teams tally before being bowled out by Colts’ Josh Topliss.
Star batsman Paul Reynolds and Paul Tamasi posted 23 runs each while Ricky Marsh made a handy 21 for Marist.
Colts’ best bowling figures came from Gavin Bricknall who took 2/17.
Colts were sent into bat knowing they had a big task ahead of them, and losing opening batsmen Topliss after making only 10 runs made it an even more uphill battle.
However after that Colts put on a strong batting display with Clayton Caltounis notching 48 runs and Deon Attard finishing with 44 not out. However Murray Goodwin put on the best batting display with an unbeaten 87.
Marshall Roberts was Marist’s most efficient bowler taking three of the total five wickets.
It was tight for the entire game and went down to the wire seeing Colts the victors by two runs.
