DE-LISTED Bunbury AFL footballer Kyle Reimers is “desperate” to continue his career and could be handed a lifeline by Carlton.
Reimers, who was axed by Essendon last month, has met Mick Malthouse and Carlton’s coaching staff but will have to wait until at least the draft to learn his fate.
Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said they would consider picking Reimers in the draft, although not at the expense of other young talent.
''We won’t be taking him before the national draft [as a delisted free agent] but if he is around at a suitable pick in the draft we would look at him then,” he said.
''Our first priority is to get the younger guys in and if all the younger guys we are considering are gone then we will look at him.''
McKay said Carlton rated saw Reimers as a “quick goalkicker who can get into a bit of space”.
Reimers, who grew up in Bunbury and played for the Bunbury Bulldogs, was taken by Essendon with pick 47 in the 2006 national draft.
The 23-year-old spoke to afl.com.au about his axing.
"I haven't stopped thinking about trying to find a new home since I found out the news," he said.
Reimers said he was willing to put his his iridesecent football back in the cupboard in order to continue his career.
"They'll stay in the closet I'm pretty sure, I'll stick to my white ones."
