POLICE are investigating a crash which left an Australind cyclist with severe head injuries last week.
A man was found semi-conscious by an oncoming motorist on Elinor Bell Road in Leschenault about 2.30pm on Wednesday, January 29.
South West traffic officer-in-charge Craig Clarke said police were unsure what had happened to the cyclist.
He said police could not see any signs he was hit by a vehicle but called for witnesses to the crash.
The 21-year-old victim was taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital and then flown to Royal Perth Hospital.
He was put into an induced coma due to the extent of his head injuries.
Sergeant Clarke said the road was long, has a slow decline and bends often which could have resulted in the cyclist to fall off his bike.
He believed the man was wearing a helmet which potentially saved his life.
