BADMINTON: The Bunbury Badminton Club hosted their annual open tournament over the weekend with more than a hundred entries from Perth through to Albany.
Tournament director Nigel Smith said he was thrilled with the turn out spanning all age groups from eight to 80 and to have Mayor Gary Brennan presenting the trophies.
Former state representative Kiel Jackson flew the flag for Bunbury by taking out the open men’s singles title and backed it up with a win in the open men’s doubles with partner Nathan Papas and mixed open doubles with partner Annie Lee.
Bunbury’s only current state representative Louise Bradford, 14, took on the seniors field and walked away with two titles in the C grade mixed doubles with 14-year-old Matthew Teo and the women’s C grade doubles with Joop Kapovich.
Bunbury Association president Julien Bradford said he was rapt with the weekend’s event that demonstrated a growing popularity of the sport of Badminton.
New junior and senior seasons will commence over the next few weeks.
