MANY will know Ian Moss as the rock-legend guitarist of Cold Chisel, a title not easily avoided and a title Ian isn’t looking to shed.
Instead Ian is looking to embrace a new style of music when he appears at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre in June.
Ian said he will be playing his music stripped back to an acoustic sound with a six string guitar and a stomp box, and he said while it won’t be as boom-crash as some of the music he’s known for, he’s keen to explore another side to his ability.
”I’ll be playing my own versions of Chisel songs, Bow River, Choir Girl, Flame Trees, but I’ll also be playing my original material and some songs fans might not have heard,” he said.
“It feels good to really look at the songs and get the message across in a different way, it was a fun challenge but there will be no shortage of power and energy in the music, I’m fussy about sound.”

After Ian’s success with Cold Chisel and a solo career, he remembers where the drive and spark to play music came from.
“In the end I’m still just a boy from Alice Springs,” he said.
“When I was a kid growing up in Alice Springs there wasn’t a whole lot to do and I’d listen to music on the radio station there, ABC, and they’d play a lot of soul.”
“But I’d also get into the Beatles and Elvis and it wasn’t until later I started to hear other bands like Zeppelin and Hendrix.”
Ian remembers a time when his school was flooded with American students and with them they bought music from the states which couldn’t be found in any record store in Australia.
He said all the new sounds he was hearing was eye opening for him.
“They bought music with them I couldn’t find and hadn’t heard including Led Zeppelin one.”
Now after years on since he first dipped his toes into the music scene he’s ready to grow and he thinks theatre performance is just the avenue to explore.
“I’ve played in pubs and restaurants but when you’re in a theatre, you’re the centre of attention and the audience is there for you, it drives me to explore my ability.”
Ian Moss will be performing his Six String Classics theatre performance at the BREC on June 5.
