People making inquiries at Bunbury Police station will now have a strong visual reminder to “choose respect” when they walk through the doors.
Bunbury Respect committee member Leanne Maher presented Bunbury Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mal Jones with the Choose Respect signage on Monday to assist front line staff.
“I am very pleased to accept this Choose Respect sign from the Bunbury Respect committee,” Senior Sergeant Jones said. “I think Choose Respect is a wonderful initiative which I fully support.
“Any help I can give my staff to assist them work in a more respectful environment is welcome.”
Mrs Maher gave a short presentation to office staff on how the Choose Respect message was being more and more widely received within the community.
“We hope the signage reminds people to ‘stop and think before they act’ and that it can be a useful tool when dealing with customers who may be in stressful situations.”
“Often, front line reception staff across many different lines of work can become the target for some heated conversations.
“However the more people can remain calm and allow for considered conversation, the more likely a favourable outcome can be worked towards.”
The Choose Respect initiative continues to grow within the community and aims for a more positive respectful culture in the future.
