Local disability services provider Enable South West will be undergoing long awaited upgrades thanks to a funding boost from Lotterywest.
The funding will be used complete much-needed additions to its office space and IT systems.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli said the organisation was a very worthy recipient of the funding when he presented the grant for $311,071.
“I am delighted to be able to officially present this grant funding to Enable South West to allow it to continue the important work it does in our community in assisting people with disabilities,” he said.
“There are significant extensions already underway to add on a new room which can be used for meetings and by other community groups.
“This was originally part of the premises but the organisation’s demand for services meant it was outgrown.
“The funding will also be used towards upgrading Enable’s IT system and equipment including a projection screen to be used for videoconferencing and staff training.”
The majority of the money will be spent upgrading the building’s IT and there are plans for an 80 square metre upstairs area.
Enable South West hope to have the project finished by the end of next month.
Since its inception in 1991, Enable has provide support to individuals and their families living with disability and mental health diagnosis, as well as aging and short and long term illness.
They currently assist more than 200 clients across the South West with a ange of services including Alternatives to Employment, Accommodation Support, Post-School Options, Intensive Family support and carer respite.
Besides Bunbury, there are also Enable South West offices in Busselton, Manjimup, Margaret River, Mandurah, Pinjarra and Albany.
The funding follows a Lotterywest grant of more than $700,000 in 2011 which allowed Enable to establish a premises at Beach Road.
Lotterywest is the only lottery system in Australia where the proceeds of games are distributed back to the community in the form of grants, with $131 million granted to community organisations in 2014.
