A Bunbury electrician has been fined $6000 for failing to complete work in accordance with Australia and New Zealand wiring laws.
Torben Norman Johansen, trading as Torben Electrix, provided Bunbury Magistrates Court with a written guilty plea on Thursday.
Johansen was hired to install a number of power points in a commercial premises in February 2014 and filed a notice of completion with Western Power once he had finished. An inspection by a Western Power contractor later that month found Johansen had failed to ensure an earth connection in the process of his work.
Magistrate Brian Mahon said electrical workers are in a position of considerable trust and it is imperative they are completing their work to the required standard.
Johansen did not have a prior record and the maximum penalty for each offence was $50,000.
