Bunbury Mail has a new reporter in the form of me.
Hello, my name is Ivy James.
A few fun facts about me - I was born in Singapore, I'm Indian (in case my brown skin doesn't give me away) and I speak and write Chinese fluently.
I moved to Perth when I was 12 and fell in love with Australia.
Despite my mum's desire for me to become a doctor, lawyer or engineer, I graduated as a journalist from Curtin University in 2014.
Since graduating, I moved interstate to Charters Towers, a regional town 130 kilometres outside of Townsville, to kickstart my career at a bi-weekly regional newspaper - The Northern Miner.
Moving to regional Queensland was surprisingly epic for a city slicker like me.
I came into close contact with cattle, engaged with graziers and miners, chased fire trucks, went on helicopter rides with Bob Katter and raced around in V8 pro buggies.
Thirteen months later, I developed itchy feet and felt like I needed to move on to a place a little less isolated - somewhere in proxmity to a Myers and David Jones.
I applied, the Bunbury Mail accepted and here I am.
I love a good adventure and like to think of myself as an Indian Bilbo Baggins.
It's only been three days and despite not knowing anyone here except my colleagues and my housemate, I already #lovebunbury.
Everyone at the Bunbury Mail has been very friendly and I am very blessed to be working alongside my colleagues.
I've heard great things about the local food and wine scene and am keen to start exploring.
Some of my passions include dancing, playing badminton, making cocktails and cooking a mean curry.
So if you have any local clubs in mind for me to join, please let me know.
Most especially, snagging a unit by the beach was very lucky.
The view of the beach every morning as I drive to work and going to sleep and waking up to the sound of crashing waves keeps adding notches to my bliss-o-meter.
I cannot wait for summer in Bunbury.
Anyway, enough about me.
I'm here to serve you. So allow me to get to know you.
I'm always on the hunt for a cracker of a story so if you see or hear anything exciting, feel free to send me an email at ivy.james@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
