
The state crime operations squad have charged a 37-year-old man with several offences relating to the sexual assault of a 54-year-old woman in Bunbury in 1992.
It will be alleged that in the early hours of Tuesday, August 4, 1992, the sleeping woman was woken after hearing intruders inside her house.
After getting up to investigate, she was confronted by two males who both sexually assaulted her.
The woman’s three young children were asleep in the house at the time.
It will be further alleged the intruders rummaged through the house looking for property to steal before ripping the telephone from the wall and fleeing.
As a result of a review of the case by detectives attached to the state crime operations squad identified one of the males.
He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of burglary and one count of stealing.
As the accused person was aged 13 at the time of the offence, he will appear in the Perth Children’s Court on August 5, 2016.
Inquiries into the identity of the second intruder continue.
